The Michigan Midget Racing Association (MMRA), based at the Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club, offers exciting racing opportunities for kids aged 4½ to 16.
What is a Quarter Midget?
A Quarter Midget is a scaled-down version of a full-sized midget racer, approximately 1/4 scale. These cars are built around a tubular frame and feature full suspension systems with springs or torsion bars and shocks. The bodies are made of sheet steel, painted and adorned with graphics to suit the driver’s preferences. Safety is a priority, with a chrome-moly roll cage and nerf bars surrounding the driver.
Engine Specifications
Quarter Midgets are powered by single-cylinder engines from manufacturers like Honda, DECO, and Briggs & Stratton. In the entry-level configuration, these engines produce between 2.5 and 4 horsepower. However, modifications in the upper classes can boost engine output to nearly 20 horsepower. These reliable air-cooled 4-cycle engines can reach up to 14,000 RPM in their highly modified forms.
