Welcome to the Oakland County Sportsmen's Club JOAD page!

What is JOAD?

Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is a program of USA Archery that is designed to provide youth (boys and girls under 21) with high quality archery instruction, training, and opportunities for competition in a safe and positive environment.

Here at OCSC the JOAD program is staffed by USA Archery Certified Archery Coaches who volunteer their time to the program. We also have equipment available for beginners who wish to try the program.

JOAD stresses equipping a youth to shoot with proper form, doing so safely, and focusing on the positive aspects of the sport. The USA's last Olympic Gold and Silver Medal archers started out as JOAD archers. The OCSC JOAD program has produced numerous archers who have competed at national and international events. OCSC archers have also received college scholarships through their participation in the JOAD program and the skills they honed here.

While the Olympic effort is important, JOAD recognizes that it is far more important that archery be a fun and positive experience so that the young archer will continue to enjoy the sport throughout their life. The JOAD coaches know this and strive to promote success and a positive attitude. Archery is a sport for a lifetime!

Through the JOAD Olympian Awards program, archers can earn incentives as they develop and improve their scores up through the ranks of Yeoman, Jr. Bowman, Bowman, Junior Archer, Archer, Master Archer, Expert Archer, Olympian, Silver Olympian and Gold Olympian.

From beginners to Gold Olympians, thousands of young archers learn the fun and excitement of archery in more than 250 JOAD Clubs across the country. The USA Archery also provides continuity for JOAD archers to participate in the sport beyond the age of eighteen through college and local club programs.

The JOAD program meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at the OCSC Archery Club. All equipment for beginners is provided.
